CPRE supports the proposal to convert long empty offices close to Chesterfield town centre into a number of flats.

CPRE Derbyshire, promotes a ‘Brownfield First’ approach to developments. We are therefore pleased to see an application to convert the disused Derbyshire County Council Social Services offices on West Street Chesterfield into 36 flats. We feel that repurposing of this unused property will not only provide additional dwellings but also contribute to the regeneration of Chesterfield town centre, as the accommodation is in easy walking distance of town centre shopping and other facilities.

Although not detailed in the current application documents we are hopeful that the flats would qualify as affordable, and in lending our support for the plans we also stressed the need for affordable housing.
